Crochet your own eco friendly shopping bag in the color of your choice using our 1 mm hemp twine balls. This bag took approximately 1 1/2 balls of hemp twine. The bag was crocheted by a beginner, and although a crochet expert may notice that there are one or two mistakes in it, the bag is still functional. Take the eco friendly bag with you when you go shopping or store your fruit and vegetables in it. * Please note: There are many free patterns for such bags on the Internet, this bag was based on a number of them, rather than just one pattern.

The design was made by randomly stamping a single stamp in black on both the front and back of a pre-scored card, with some images stamped off the edges. Tiny hearts were added in the spaces between the main images. The hearts and the centre of the main image were colored with a red pen. The sentiment was stamped in black on white card, trimmed to size and backed with red card. Red and white baker’s twine* was wrapped round the card, knotted and the end trimmed. An insert page was also added, which hides the twine inside and allows the receiver to concentrate on the written message.
The card used here was a tall card, but the design works just as well on any size and shape of card. The design also suits any clear outline stamp, e.g. flower head with a tiny leaf in place of the hearts.

This mandala was crocheted using hemp cotton yarn left over from other projects. It really brightens up a plain cotton tote bag, with the pompom in the center adding the finishing touch.

This macrame tree of life was created with 2mm natural hemp twine, a 10 inch metal ring and light and dark shades of brown wood beads. The metal ring was completely wrapped with twine before starting on the tree itself. There are many ways of making a Tree of Life, but this one was created from the the roots upwards. Lengths of hemp were attached and then plaited together to form the tree’s trunk before dividing for the branches. The thicker branches were made using the macrame spiral knot and thinner branches were made by just twisting two strands together. Beads were randomly threaded onto the branches. To finish, the twine branches were stretched tightly and secured to the metal ring before being glued in place with super glue. There was no particular pattern in mind when starting the tree, it just developed as it progressed.
This scarf fits snuggly round the neck and takes just one skein of our sari ribbon yarn and, depending on your level of skill, can be made in an evening. Please note that the stitch used throughout is single crochet, if you are from the USA, or double crochet, if you are from the UK.
You will require:
One skein of sari ribbon yarn
One extra large wooden crochet hook
One large diameter round button of your own color choice
Length of 8 inches natural hemp twine
With the crochet hook and sari ribbon yarn crochet eight chains. Turn and crochet into the second chain from the hook, then continue to crochet into each stitch to the end of the row. Crochet one chain, turn and crochet into each stitch to the end of this second row. Repeat this row until the scarf is 30 inches long, then fasten off. Use the remaining sari ribbon yarn to cut into lengths of approximately 8 inches to make the fringe. Finally, tie your button to the scarf with the hemp twine.
This scarf fits snugly round the neck and sits comfortably on the shoulders. If you want a longer scarf, just use a second skein of sari ribbon silk and continue to follow the pattern until the scarf is the desired length.
